What is CERN?

From my understanding the CERN project is expected to create a tiny version of the primordial Big Bang right here on our earth. It will release unbelievable amounts of energy never before seen on our planet. Do these "geniuses" know what the consequences will be? I doubt it, they're too busy feeding their egos, and what does this remind me of? It reminds of a time when little boys played with matches called nuclear energy. Brilliant...

CERN was powered up earlier this month and many conspiracy theories floating around the internet surround the startup. These theories include a connection between the swarm of earthquakes in Reno, the cyclone in Myanmar, the Chaiten volcano in Chile which had been sleeping for 9000 years and the recent devastating earthquake in China. Coincidence?

Oddly the Chaiten volcano and earthquake in China lie diametrically opposed to one another on the globe, the antipode point.
